An Iterative Method for the Stokes-Type Problem with Variable Viscosity

چکیده
The paper concerns with an iterative technique for solving discretized Stokes type equations with varying viscosity coefficient. We build a special block preconditioner for the discrete system of equations and perform an analysis revealing its properties. The subject of this paper is motivated by numerical solution of incompressible non-Newtonian fluid equations. In particular, the general analysis is applied to the linearized equations of the regularized Bingham model of viscoplastic fluid. Both theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show that the suggested preconditioner leads to a significant improvement of an iterative method convergence compared to a ‘standard’ preconditioner.

Preconditioning the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable viscosity
This paper deals with preconditioners for the iterative solution of the discrete Oseen’s problem with variable viscosity. The motivation of this work originates from numerical simulations of multiphase flow, governed by the coupled Cahn-Hilliard and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The impact of variable viscosity on some known preconditioning technique is analyzed. Numerical experiments...
متن کاملRobust preconditioning methods for algebraic problems, arising in multi- phase flow models
The aim of the project is to construct, analyse and implement fast and reliable numerical solution methods to simulate multi-phase flow, modeled by a coupled system consisting of the time-dependent Cahn-Hilliard and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable viscosity and variable density. This thesis mainly discusses the efficient solution methods for the latter equations aiming at c...
متن کاملBlock Preconditioners for the Incompressible Stokes Problem
This paper discusses the solution of the Stokes problem using block preconditioned iterative methods. Block preconditioners are based on the block factorization of the discretized problem. We focus on two specific types: SIMPLE-type preconditioners and the LSC preconditioner. Both methods use scaling to improve their performance. We test convergence of GCR in combination with these precondition...
متن کاملA Composite Finite Difference Scheme for Subsonic Transonic Flows (RESEARCH NOTE).
This paper presents a simple and computationally-efficient algorithm for solving steady two-dimensional subsonic and transonic compressible flow over an airfoil. This work uses an interactive viscous-inviscid solution by incorporating the viscous effects in a thin shear-layer. Boundary-layer approximation reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to a parabolic set of coupled, non-linear partial diff...
متن کاملIrreversibility Analysis of MHD Buoyancy-Driven Variable Viscosity Liquid Film along an Inclined Heated Plate Convective Cooling
Analysis of intrinsic irreversibility and heat transfer in a buoyancy-driven changeable viscosity liquid along an incline heated wall with convective cooling taking into consideration the heated isothermal and isoflux wall is investigated. By Newton’s law of cooling, we assumed the free surface exchange heat with environment and fluid viscosity is exponentially dependent on temperature. Appropr...
